Buyer brokerages began emerging in 1989 after the National Association of Realtors® began requiring that all Realtors® advise their clients of whether they are representing the buyer or the seller. During the spring of 1996, Tieh was elected President of the National Association of Exclusive Buyer Agents (NAEBA), an independent alliance of real estate agents who and do not take property listings and whose companies work exclusively for buyers. He is also Chairman of NAEBA's Professional Standards Committee which promulgates standards of service that real estate buyers should expect when working with a buyer's agent. Tieh says, "The formation of NAEBA is the most significant shift in our real estate industry since 1908, when Realtors® formed their own national trade association. We have made available to every real estate purchaser a new avenue for advocacy, for negotiations assistance, and for protection."
